In celebration of African Traditional Medicine Day on 31 August, we sat down with AHRI faculty member and traditional medicine expert Prof Nceba Gqaleni. Prof Gqaleni is a member of the WHO (African Regional Office) expert advisory committee on traditional medicine for Covid-19, part of the task team drafting SA’s policy on African traditional medicine, and is project leader of the KwaZulu-Natal IK-based healthy lifestyle strategy to fight Covid-19 and beyond. He is also an advisor to the KZN MEC for Health on traditional medicine. At AHRI, Prof Gqaleni works to help fast-track the research and development of traditional medicines against Covid-19, HIV and non-communicable diseases.
In this episode, Prof Gqaleni shares his knowledge on the role of traditional medicine during the time of Covid-19, as well as information about the effective use of traditional medicine in general.
